This policy explains what cookies are, which ones this website uses, what each of them does and how you can control them.
It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers personal information more broadly. If you want to know what we do with your information beyond cookies, read that instead.
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you come back, the site can read that file again.
Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses. Most of them do dull, necessary work: keeping you logged in, remembering a preference, or stopping a form being submitted twice. Some are used to measure how a site is used, and some to target advertising.
Similar technologies such as local storage and pixels do the same job by different means. Where we talk about cookies in this policy, we mean those too.
In the UK, cookies are governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, alongside UK GDPR.

That last point matters: consent has to come first. A banner that sets analytics cookies the moment the page loads does not comply, however it is worded.
These keep the site working and the contact form usable. They are set without asking, because the site cannot function without them.

This website does not currently use analytics cookies. Nothing is measuring your visit, and no cookie is set for that purpose.
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not sell advertising space, and we do not allow third parties to track you across other websites from here.
Even without third-party cookies, some parts of the page are loaded from other companies’ servers. That means your browser contacts them, and your IP address is visible to them as part of the request.
The typefaces used on this site are currently loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser contacts Google to fetch them, which discloses your IP address to Google in the United States. Google states that it does not set cookies for Google Fonts requests.
If we later embed a map, a video or a chat widget, that provider may set its own cookies when the content loads. Nothing of that kind is embedded at the moment. If it is added, this policy will be updated first.
You can control cookies through your browser at any time. Every major browser lets you see what has been stored, delete it, and block cookies from being set at all.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of this site working properly, in particular the contact form. Blocking cookies also does not remove information we already hold about you — for that, see the rights section of our privacy policy.
